"Some headteachers earn more than me" says Kent CC Chief Executive

Written by Tim Prater and published in Letter to Kent County Council Chief Executive Peter Gilroy on Tue 5th Jan 2010

I have just watched with interest your interview on ITV Meridian TV this evening, where you described your £250k pa salary as being "less than that of some headteachers". I wonder if you could justify that statement.

As I understand it, state headteacher pay scales as at http://www.tda.gov.uk/Recruit/lifeasateacher/payandbenefits/salaryscales.aspx show that the maximum salary of a Headteacher in an Inner London school (Sept 2009 figures) would be £110k pa - less than half your salary. It would be rather less even at the biggest Kent state school.

Could you tell me which headteachers earn more than your salary please?

Many thanks in advance, and best wishes for 2010.
