The scheme to introduce charge Folkestone residents for street parking permits could be scrapped in an incredible feud between Conservative Kent and Shepway Councils. Sat 25th Oct 2008: Kent Council Financial Advisors warned Shepway that Iceland Investments were risky in 2007. The potential loss of £50 million by Conservative Kent County Council of investments in Icelandic banks is under even closer scrutiny after news that KCC's financial advisers, Butlers, had advised Shepway Council that investments in Iceland were risky due to low liquidity in 2007. Wed 22nd Oct 2008: Cheriton Primary Win Councillors Cup 2008. Congratulations to Cheriton Primary School who won the first ever Cheriton & Morehall Football "Councillors Cup" on Wednesday. St Martins Primary School were runners-up, and the hotly contested contest also had teams from all other primary schools in the Cheriton and Morehall area: All Souls, Harcourt and Morehall Schools. Sat 11th Oct 2008: No Shepway Council deposits in Icelandic Banks but impact on pensions unknown. In answer to questions from Lib Dem Councillor Tim Prater, Shepway Council have confirmed that, although they have no deposits in Icelandic banks, the potential impact on pension funds currently remains unknown. Shepway's pension fund is administered by Kent County Council, who have said that around one third of the KCC deposits that have been lost relate to the pension fund - around £18 million. Mon 15th Sep 2008: Sandgate Road Repairs to start, and last up to three months. Shepway Councillor Tim Prater has been told that, following a site meeting this morning between Kent Highways and Southern Water amongst others, works will begin tomorrow in Trinity Gardens, related to the issues in Sandgate Road. These are expected to last into next week and then work is expected to commence soon after to repair the sewer in Sandgate Road. Thu 11th Sep 2008: Sandgate Road: sewer collapse confirmed and full repairs now needed. Fears that Sandgate Road in Folkestone was suffering from serious sewer collapse have been confirmed by Kent Highways Services in a response to enquiries by Folkestone Councillor Tim Prater. Horn Street Closure now expected to last until Mid-November. Water main replacement in Horn Street is now expected to take until mid-November to complete, according to an update received by Cheriton Lib Dem Councillor Tim Prater from Kent Highways Services. The road has been closed to through traffic since January this year, with the work expected to take only around 4 months originally. Tue 9th Sep 2008: £100 fine for using Stop24 services. A visitor to Shepway from Huntingdon got an unpleasant surprise when stopping for a break at the M20 J11 Stop24 services in July when he got home: a £100 fine for parking at the services! Horn Street Closure: How Much Longer? Horn Street, the road running between the A259 Seabrook Road junction and Cheriton High Street in Folkestone, remains closed over SEVEN months since it was first shut. Mon 8th Sep 2008: Chair of Governors at St Martins School. Councillor Tim Prater has been elected as the new Chair of Governors at St Martins Primary School in Horn Street, Cheriton. Fri 15th Aug 2008: New Discover Folkestone web site to tempt tourists. AFTER a month when its website attracted a record 379,175 hits, the Discover Folkestone, Hythe & Romney tourism marketing organisation has switched to a new inter-active system which provides potential visitors with more information and improved facilities to find and book inspected accommodation. Linked to the destination management system operated by VisitKent and other information providers and to major search engines the new-look www.discoverfolkestone.co.uk also gives local tourism businesses more opportunities to access regional, national and international markets. Wed 6th Aug 2008: £1,000 Solar grant available for Shepway residents. The Kent Energy Centre is currently working with Shepway Council to promote the Solar Renewable Grant Scheme for residents who may be interested in purchasing solar hot water or solar electricity equipment. The scheme offers a £1,000 grant towards the installed cost of solar electric or solar hot water systems. Sun 3rd Aug 2008: Cheriton Councillor welcomes Saga jobs boost at Cheriton Parc. Cheriton Councillor Tim Prater has welcomed news that Saga have bought Cheriton Parc House in Cheriton Parc from Eurotunnel and are planning to use the building as a new call centre, creating up to 400 new jobs. Wed 30th Jul 2008: Action Promised over Valebrook Close Path. Following a request from Cheriton Councillor Tim Prater, the Shepway Public Rights of Way Officer has agreed to arrange a site meeting with a contractor to mark out the correct line of the path running from Valebrook Close to Pond Hill Road in Cheriton. Thu 24th Jul 2008: Lib Dem Councillor Tim Prater has reported graffiti on the green cable box in Firs Lane, Cheriton, to Shepway Council to be removed.
