14 Most Recent Stories From Tim Prater CommentSat 28th Feb 2009: In Defiance of Kent Highways*. I come not to praise the maintenance of the roads and streetlights in Shepway, but to bury them. Wed 21st Jan 2009: I am writing to ask you to vote against the draft Freedom of Information (Parliament) Order 2009 this Thursday, and to sign Jo Swinson's Early Day Motion number 492. Sun 7th Oct 2007: Opinion: The Worst Part of "Brown's Bottle" is That He Even Had The Choice. Where were YOU when you learned Brown had bottled it? For me, it was a text on Saturday afternoon Vice Chair Neil Matthews which caused me to jump for the remote: "Have you seen the news? GE". Thanks for that Neil - my pulse will one day return to normal. I guess. Fri 17th Aug 2007: In May, The Liberal Democrats took control of Folkestone Town Council, winning 11 of the 18 seats. Taking control has given us the chance to make sure we follow through on our promise to make Folkestone Greener, and in the first few months have got off to a flying start! Fri 9th Mar 2007: I'm determined that the Liberal Democrats will use the forthcoming local election campaign to fight for the services and issues that really effect local people. Sun 4th Feb 2007: I don't do film reviews very often, so I'll keep this one short. Having watched "An Inconvenient Truth" a couple of weeks ago, you have simply got to see it. if you haven't seen it, buy the DVD (from the Shepway Lib Dem shop is ideal, and makes us a few pence), from your nearest shop, borrow a copy. Whatever - watch this film. Thu 11th Jan 2007: This Is What We Do - the Campaign to Save OUR Royal Victoria. To learn that there was a proposal to sell-off the largest part of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Folkestone came as a real shock to local people just before Christmas - not least to the Lib Dems. Thu 7th Dec 2006: It's always fun to find yourself in the Martello column in the Folkestone Herald. A piece this week reads: Sun 19th Nov 2006: I've recently discovered that the state of our streets and towns has been cited by marketing experts as the major block on "selling" Folkestone and Hythe. The litter our our streets, the overflowing bins, and the state of the town centre at night mean that those marketing experts feel its not even worth trying to get people to come here. Their prognosis is simple - get and keep Shepway clean and tidy - all the time. Make people like where they live, and want it to succeed. From there, the marketing has a chance. Welcome Home Toby! Tue 5th Sep 2006: A New Day has Dawned, Has it Not? Thank you Radio 1 - by playing "Things can only get Better" this morning, it decided what this months column was going to be about. Thu 1st Jun 2006: A regular feature of the political landscape is the Parliamentary by-election. These are almost always triggered in the sad circumstances of an MPs death (MPs very rarely resign) which have become rarer over the last decades as life-expectancy has increased. Tue 2nd May 2006: If you were going to come up with a good working definition of a "bad news week", a diary from the Labour Party over the past few days would probable do it. A Labour Health Secretary being mauled by a nurses conference, the Home Secretary admitting to "losing track" of prisoners without considering them for deportation, and John Prescott. The less said about the latter, the better - it makes Season feel queasy. Sun 2nd Apr 2006: Get in There, Fight Your Case and Win the Arguments. Thank You! On 23rd March, our win in the Cheriton by-election was down to the hard work, and support of members from across Shepway - it's as simple as that. Every member who helped deliver, spoke to voters, sat on a polling station or made a donation helped make our win possible. And Maureen, Tom, Peter, Darren, Miranda and Season - you were awesome.
